So glad Snow White/Mary Margerat have been presented so well so far on the show as the trailers for "Snow White and the Huntsman" and "Mirror and Mirror" are so disappointed. If those were the only representation of Snow White for this generation's youth I would be so sad

When I see those trailers and this show, I just wonder, "What's up with the popularity of Snow White all of a sudden?" I mean... is she that big of a deal? I never even thought about her story that much when I was growing up. I mean, her story was never really my favorite fairy tale. I much preferred Cinderella.
Although... I guess Cinderella has been covered by Hollywood recently, too. "Ever After" and "Ella Enchanted" come to mind.

I've always loved Snow White growing up, but yeah I don't understand this sudden rise in popularity. My theory is that Hollywood is without original thought, so it needs a new cash cow now that its bleed the Vampire gimmick dry, so people are turning to fairy tales specifically Snow White because it hadn't been done before, most of the recent fairy tale adaptions as you mention has focused on Cinderella--the underdog story that wins in the end, Snow White in comparison has been relatively untouched, at least until now. Of course now everyone wants to do her story and they are re-imaging, updating, and modernizing her character. I like that Once Upon the Time is adding layers to her character, but they haven't really changed the character's core. From the trailers for the two movies, "Mirror Mirror" might be a bit too campy for my taste, and "Snow White and the Huntsman" feels too radically different, plus I'm not really a fan of Kristen Stewart.

Yes, I agree with you.
First it was vampires and werewolves.
Then it was superheroes.
Now it's fairy tales.
I guess witches had a bit of a run in the middle, but not that much, considering how popular Harry Potter is.
